Linda Koebner at the age of 23, was able to witness one of the most incredible things in her life. Linda could be the source of freedom for a group of chimpanzees that have been used for 6 years in laboratory experiments. No one involved in the mission had any idea what the reaction of the animals would have been to the freedom they had never known. These chimpanzees were caged all their lives and had never seen the sun. Would that be the positive or frankly dangerous answer? Things went well, but as you can imagine, damage was done. Then, Linda intervened and became a surrogate chimp mother for 4 years, helping them get used to life outside a cage, away from the pressure and insistence of laboratory work.
