Simon Says: “That Was The Most Amazing Thing I’ve Ever Seen and Heard” — Cowell Is Blown Away by Deaf Singer’s Performance

When Mandy Harvey, from St. Cloud, Florida, occupied a central place in the auditions of "America's Got Talent", he brought with him some musicians and a sign language interpreter. He explained that he had been deaf since he was 18 years old. He told Simon Cowell that, after an illness, he had a nervous breakdown and was deaf. He had been singing since he was only 4, but he gave it away when he lost his hearing. However, Simon Cowell decided not to let it hit and discovered how to sing again. For her audition, she sang an original song she had written herself about her struggle to overcome her disadvantage and not let her define it. When Harvey performed his song, he stood barefoot so he could hear the rhythm of the vibrations of the music across the floor with his feet. He gave an impressive performance with an angelic voice and powerful lyrics. Even before it ended, the audience exploded in loud applause. Harvey received a standing ovation from the judges and the public. His charming singing and fighting spirit had amazed everyone. Mandy Harvey was in tears at the wonderful answer and this turned into awe and joy when Simon Cowell reached and pressed the gold bell that would send her directly to the live shows. Cowell said: "It was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen and heard." He ran to the stage and gave Mandy a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. One could say that his admiration was profoundly genuine. The courage and determination of this young woman in the face of adversity is a lesson for us all, the only thing that hinders your success is you. Anything else is just an obstacle on the road.
